      A paradox is a situation in which something seems both true and false.

      When you increase your knowledge, you see how little you know. You see how much you still have to learn. When you really know a lot, you can say: "I know that I know nothing."

      A paradox can sometimes be more obscure and it is more easily defined as something (sentence/situation/plot/etc.) that tends to contradict itself. It is seen in Philip Larkin's Take One Home For The Kiddies especially in the last line:

      We're playing funerals now.

      A statement contrary to received opinion.

      i.e. The Unsinkable 'Titanic' sinking ….
