Oh dear. You do sound in a bad way, Stephkav525. Have you spoken to your parents/guardians about the situation? Are the others in your class having the same trouble? If they are, why not try and get a few of the parents to complain to the school or to ask for some extra tuition to be arranged if things are really that bad. The other option is to do to one of the "grind schools". It depends on where you live as to whether there is one near you or not. If that fails, try and get hold of some of the old exam papers and start working through them. Have you any older brothers or sisters who have already done the Junior Cert? Maybe they could help you? Miriam.

the worst thing u can do is freak out believe me!!! what i do is i go through my book look at the examples then cover the examples and see if u can do them without looking then compare your answer 2 the example, teach urself, thats what i have 2 do always and i also reccommend the mAths book "less stress more success" its excellent good luck!!! im in jc 2 and if u have any questions u wanna ask ill try and help xxx

Dont worry, i know exactly how you feel, my maths teacher is EXACTLY like yours, but i gave up a long time ago on expecting him to teach me, i got my book and read through it myself, i did loads of questions and checked my answers at the back of the book, and thank god now im the top of the class at maths! u should do the same, i know the book looks kind of scary, but its not really that bad, wen ur done lookin through the book do some exam papers yourself, and try the less stress books…if u need any help dont hesitate to ask me!

Wat subject is it? if its Maths i suggest u pratice doing the Questions out of the Exams paprs by yourself and getting another teacher to mark them and point out your mistakes that way you’ll get enough practice at the questions yourself before the big exam comes by. do the same with english, practice answering the exam paper questions and have another teacher correct your work. other than that you can have a long talk with your teacher and explain to him that this ways of teaching is not helping you at all and have other students in the class back you up on it. if hat doesn’t work. talk to you tutor or year head about it and have them change your class if possible.

Don’t worry about it. My maths teacher never did anything in class with us. i had my jc last year, i didn’t really use my book so much as the exam papers- espicially for maths. use the EDCO ones- that way you can look up the answers and everything online.

tat sounds like a problem my friend had too in her class. she was forced to get grinds in the end because the skool wudnt do nything bout it

    • #13108

I’m in the same way. the teacher we got at the start of the year has no idea what she’s doing. I started out with an A2 average at the beginning of 5th year at higher level, but when we got a different teacher the whole class’ grades gradually went down to barely passing at low C’s and D’s. Whilst we barely do anything in class the teacher piles on homework that none of us can do as she hasn’t even explained it.
If this is your case and you can’t afford grinds try online tutorials on youtube, or go to a friend who is doing better, they may be able to help you raise your score as well.

If your teacher gives you exam papers for homework, use the sample answers online, to get you started and then try work them out on your own

The thing is she uses all these obscure books from like a hundred years ago and there are words in them that i don’t even think people use anymore…
But I’ll keep that in mind fer when i start ding exam papers thanks
